Resume tips for landing a job

Resume tips for landing a job

Your resume can be the key to opening doors when looking for a job, especially in a competitive market like Fort Lauderdale. Your resume acts like a GPS, directing potential employers to see why you’re the right fit for the job.

At Pridestaff Fort Lauderdale, we receive hundreds of resumes and understand what makes some resumes stand out while others blend in. We are dedicated to helping you navigate the Fort Lauderdale job market. With the right resume and approach, your dream job is just around the corner.

How many resumes before landing a job?

There is no magic number.

The number varies based on multiple factors. Some of these include the industry and the role you are applying for, the current state of the job market, and your own unique qualifying skills.

In a city like Fort Lauderdale, it’s critical to apply for a wide range of open job positions.

When you apply for a job, make sure your resume is tailored and relevant to the job you are applying for.

What should not go on your resume?

Many people often believe it’s okay to lie on your resume. The truth is, the lie may get you an interview, but interviewers are skilled and can detect whether you actually have the experience you claim you have. Stay honest and true to your experience. Otherwise, you may close the door to another opportunity in the event the interviewer believes you would be a good fit for the company but in a different role.

Things to avoid in your resume:

  • Irrelevant work experiences
  • Personal details
  • Outdated skills

How many bullet points should be under each job on my resume?

There is no strict restriction on the amount of bullet points to add for your current or previous work experience.  Try to aim for an amount that quickly and accurately portrays the most important parts of your experience.

Remember to quantify when possible. For example, you can say, “Increased sales by 17% in the first quarter” rather than “Increased sales.”

As a general rule, for each job listed on your resume, aim for 3 to 5 bullet points. You do not want to have an excessive amount of bullet points, and you also do not want to have a lonely bullet point.
